
DeWitt started performing on stage at 13. DeWitt was a graduate of Ball State University with a Bachelor's of Arts. Then, when she was performing in summer stock and was urged by the director to take part in UCLA's Department of Theater MFA program,where she received the Master of Fine Arts Fellowship along with the Clifton Webb Scholarship. Dewitt claimed she did not meet the actor Abe Vigoda while she was at UCLA. She was employed as a secretary during her time at UCLA. DeWitt's role as Janet Wood in Three's Company's 1977-1984 period is among her most well-known. She was cast in the show's pilot and was eventually offered the role. She also played Janet in an episode in 1979 of the spinoff show The Ropers. Following the show's conclusion, Three's Company ended in 1984, DeWitt appeared in an episode of Finder of Lost Loves in 1984 following which she resigned from acting for several years. She made her return to the stage in June 1991 when she played a part on a Noises Off production in Michigan's Cherry County Playhouse. [1] She later appeared in the 1995 TV comedy film Spring Fling! Pinky and the Brain featured the character who was modeled after her voice. She was voiced by an actress in 1997. She made an appearance in the episode Cybill, and had a cameo on the penultimate episode of Living Single. Her 2000s work include TV shows like Hope Island, The Nick at Nite Holiday Special and Call of the Wild.
